When I think of the term “fake
news,” one example I immediately think about is a past viral tweet made by an
account who edited Emma Gonzalez supposedly tearing up the Constitution when,
in actuality, it was a shooting target for a Teen Vogue video campaign. Phillip Picardi, who works for Teen
Vogue, had to set the record straight by tweeting this picture (shown above) in
order to compare the fake picture versus the real one. Picardi also tweeted out
“The fact that we even have to clarify this is proof of how democracy continues
to be fractured by people who manipulate and fabricate the truth.” Here is the
link to this tweet. Also since Parkland,
Florida’s school shooting, many of their students becoming gun control
activists has led to conspiracy theories of them claiming to be “crisis actors.”
This adds to that fact that people do not easily trust the news and see the students as just being paid actors.
