Dogs actually 2016 post
Some people were not so happy with Russia's plans to clean up the 11 host cities before the World Cup. In a social media fake news post, a photo of over 50 dead dogs was circulated claiming killing stray dogs was part of the Russian clean up plan. The photo was shared numerous times on social media creating public outrage from animal lovers. As it turns out, the photo was actually taken in Pakistan in 2016 as an initiative to curb the stray dog population which had been attacking people. The rickshaws and buses had been strategically cropped from the photo. This isn't the first time Russia has received negative press regarding major events and stray animals. In 2014, the Washington Post reported "the city of Sochi paid at least one company nearly $30,000 to kill off 1,200 homeless dogs and cats with the darts.." [1 photo, 1 link, 1 quote, 145 words]
