Last October, a viral tweet went out where there were allegations that Melania Trump had a body double during one of Donald Trump's press events. Joe Vargas, who tweeted the comparison picture above, received over 60,000 retweets. This shows that anyone on the internet nowadays can make a simple conspiracy theory turn into a worldwide obsession. According to a Vox article, "Add to that many Americans' current distrust of the media, and the growing belief that media organizations are spreading "fake news," and it's not really a surprise that conspiracy theorists and outlets that position themselves as truth-tellers have become more prominent." Here is the link to the full article. Twitter has become a social media outlet where users are entertained by any trending conspiracy theory anyone has to offer and anything that has thousands of retweets is assumed to be true.
