According to
The Intercept, women in Venezuela are doing whatever it takes to not have any more kids, including illegal abortions. In Venezuela, "abortion is forbidden by law" and birth control "costs the equivalent of up to 10 months' salary at the minimum wage." These two facts alone have left many young women with little mouths to feed and no money to do it. Not to mention, it has been named "the most violent capital in the world" yet these mothers have no way to protect future children from the crime and poverty many parts of this country are drowning in. In addition, Venezuela's economy is "
worst in the country's history" which has caused most household necessities, like contraceptive pills and other medicines, to be "unavailable or unaffordable." This has caused many young women to undergo illegal, painful surgery just to ensure they don't become pregnant again. In the United States, most birth control methods are covered under insurance and can be discussed in length at a variety of free clinics and OB-GYN offices, yet in another country, women don't even have the right to decide when they want to bare children. Even when they do, access to medicine and basic baby needs aren't attainable.
