Qualcomm is a name that few people have heard about and even
fewer know about. But they are the largest company in the cellular modem space
and almost all modern smartphones either have their chips in them or utilize
their 4G technology IP. Apple, a large smartphone maker is now switching more
use to Intel, a new comer in the cellular modem space. While Intel’s modems are
not better or even on par with that of Qualcomm. Apple hopes to “no longer have
to source modems from different companies” in an effort to loosen the grip that
Qualcomm has over its devices. The future of this space is constantly evolving
and more competition means better devices for consumers.
