Misinterpreted Picture from The Border

This image, which appeared on a “TIME” magazine cover, heartbreakingly depicts “a little girl [wailing] in uncomprehending sadness and anxiety (Dwyer).” The “child's panic is so palpable, it's difficult for a viewer not to feel it, too (Dwyer).” However, the article (https://www.npr.org/2018/06/22/622611182/crying-toddler-on-widely-shared-time-cover-was-not-separated-from-mother) goes on to describe that in this iconic image, the mother and child were never actually separated stating that “the little girl was not ultimately separated from her mother, according to her father. The man, whom Reuters identified as Denis Valera, has told multiple media outlets that mother and daughter were detained together while seeking asylum in Texas (Dwyer).” Sadly, even though the mother and daughter weren’t separated, they were still placed in police custody.
