Humor or Fake news?
Sometimes "fake news" isn't really fake, but a misunderstood or misinterpreted opinion piece. Journalists will sometimes use sarcasm and wit in an attempt to get a point across, but this isn't always translated correctly by the audience. In a recent opinion piece written in the Washington Post, columnist Dana Milbank writes a sarcastic and scoffing piece about President Trump's recent relationship with Canada's Justin Trudeau. He laughingly suggests that Trump quit the G-7 and start his own G-8 with several suggested members such as Vladimir Putin, Rodrigo Duterte, and Kim Jong Un. Milbank writes, "Inexplicably, these foreigners are not putting America First. That’s why Trump needs to quit the group and make his own G-8 — the Great Eight — with more sympathetic world leaders". While this article in most people's eyes is obviously ironic, it may not be so if you mistakenly take the humor for face value. [1 image, 4 links, 1 quote, 146 words]
