Fake Amazon Jobs

Job seekers in Memphis got a quick lesson in fake news on social media yesterday. After reading a fake news post on Facebook that Amazon was hiring workers and paying up to $22 an hour, people began lining up outside of an address at as early as 4 a.m. to snag a job. The post claimed that Amazon was having a job fair from 7-10 am to hire for a new fulfillment center in southeast Memphis. “I was trying to be one of the first ones here,” said applicant Danielle Williams. The post came shortly after Amazon announced that they would be putting a receiving warehouse in southeast Memphis and were planning on hiring around 600 new employees.
