People with depression often are able to successfully hide it behind a mask of happiness. They do this because they feel alienated and alone, and don’t want to put a damper on someone else’s day with their problems. This usually goes unnoticed on the day to day, unless someone famous kills themselves. This is exactly the case with the recent Kate Spade suicide. She made beautiful, colorful, and quirky high-end handbags, yet no one noticed the depression within her until it was too late. The company released the statement, “We honor all the beauty she brought into this world,” that truly expresses the sadness of her fans. It isn’t easy to catch the signs of depression, which is why it is important to reach out to your loved ones frequently, and cherish every moment you do have with them.
