According to a study at the University of California, mammals are becoming more nocturnal to avoid humans due to them spreading their presence as populations increase. The New York Times, narrates the study suggesting that the presence of humans has caused animals to change their sleep schedules in order to avoid them. “We’re just beginning to scratch the surface on how these behavioral changes are affecting entire ecosystems,” said Kaitlyn Gaynor, an ecologist and graduate student. Research has found that mammals were originally nocturnal then changed to being awake during the day and night. Now they are slowly changing back to being nocturnal.
