Many journalists in Iraq feel like their ability to cover political
stories is very limited and risky because of how war-torn the country is. They
cannot immerse themselves into the conflict without fearing for their lives,
which is why Iraq is considered “one of the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists." The freedom of journalism has also been oppressed by
government authorities who shut down media sources that attempt to dig deep
into a political problem. Even security personnel try to keep journalists away
from the settings of their stories. These journalists are risking their lives
to give the people a chance to see what is truly happening in Iraq, and
hopefully in the future these efforts will lead to amendments in laws regarding the rights of journalists.
