Scientists Taught A Spider How To Jump So They Can One Day Do The Same For Robots

Another article written by Neel V. Patel goes into detail about how spiders jump and why it is important. They can leap six times the distance of their body length from standing still and also carry five times their weight with them while they are in mid air. Researchers form the University of Manchester in the UK studied and trained a regal jumping spider named Kim. They had the spider jump across platforms and different distances while they took videos of the spider. Russell Garwood, a paleontologist at the University of Manchester and a coauthor of the paper states “our key finding for this species is that short range jumps tend to use low angled trajectories that minimize flight time.” They found several other factors as well throughout the study. I find this article interesting because science is important and we need to study and research many things if we want to be able to grow and advance in the future.
