The world cup is just around the corner and it seems another extremely famous
footballer is in some tax trouble. Cristiano Ronaldo , is in some deep tax trouble with Spain.
According to BBC News, Cristiano “was accused last year of defrauding tax authorities of
€14.8m (£12.9m).” Which equals out to about $17,183,229.00 USD.
That is a lot of money to hide away from the government. The article talks about how Spain in
2010 lifted a tax exemption to footballers to “curve” their taxes. Cristiano, does deny he hid money
from the government as well. A similar case just happened with Messi and he was going to face a
two year jail sentence but instead paid a $250,000 fine instead, on top of the evaded taxes.
Personally I love both footballers and they bring a lot to their countries both character and money.
I do believe people can get greedy with their money but it sounds like Spain is going going back
on their tax lift in 2010 and is now bringing the hammer down on the big stars.
I hope that this also does not distract Ronaldo in his performance in the world cup that
is going to be starting soon.
