Gena Turgel, Legendary author dies at 95

Legendary author and holocaust survivor Gena Turgel passed away last week at the age of 95. In her book I Light a Candle, she details her time spent at Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and Bergen-Belsen. "When I think back, I have to pinch myself sometimes to see if I’m really alive", Turgel said. She is probably best known for taking care of Anne Frank while she died of Typhus in Bergen-Belson. The British media sensationalized her as the "Bride of Belsen" after she married a British soldier who had helped liberate her from the camp. Her unique and beautiful wedding dress made of a British army parachute is on display at the Imperial War Museum in London. Mrs. Turgel spent most of her later years touring United Kingdom schools and telling her story.  [1 image, 3 links, 1 quote, 131 words]
