Journalist Shot Dead

On the 14th of June 2018, Shujaat Bukhari was found shot to death, at the age of 50, alongside his bodyguards in Srinagar, India near the Himalayan region of Kashmir. He is the first journalist to be killed in 12 years in an area that is heavily fought over by both India and Pakistan and claimed by both. Bukhari himself is quoted as saying that if a person speaks out against a heinous act committed by security forces there, "[they] risk being dubbed ‘anti-national’." Speculators believe that targeting of the journalist was due to his involvement last August in a peace-building initiative, and that the recent push, by Delhi, for more peace dialogue in Kashmir is what triggered this attack. If history continues to repeat itself, one thing is for certain: peaceful men will always die at the hands of the wicked.
