Have you heard of the new movie 'Gotti'? Yeah, me either, but it's suspiciously high Rotten Tomatoes score screams "Go see it!" According to an article from Mashable, Gotti was not liked by critics (it has a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes from said critics) and was barely viewed by the public in its opening weekend, yet it has thousands of five-star-reviews from "non-critic users" with "private accounts"(Beck). To put it in perspective, "despite only opening in roughly 500 theaters, Gotti has received more than 6,900 audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, while Incredibles 2, which opened in about 4,400 theaters (and made about 180 times more money), has received just over 7,600" (Beck). Honestly, it seems a little bit suspicious to me, too. Mashable isn't the only one who noticed. Twitter has taken note to the ridiculously amount of audience reviews with Dan Murrell commenting on the "very high" rating (Murrell). Sometimes you have to be your own publicity, I guess?
