First case of West Nile virus spotted in Michigan. The virus is transmitted from ill birds to mosquitoes, whom then transmit them to humans. Michigan Department of Health are advising to cut out any water sources outdoors that may attracted the mosquitoes. There were 2,002 cases and 121 deaths from the virus last year, Those that are 60 and older are facing a higher risk of getting a serious case. "It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to cause a severe illness, so take extra care during peak mosquito-biting hours, which are dusk and dawn,” reported Dr. Eden Wells, MDHHS chief medical executive. It is said that there could be possibly no initial symptoms but bites are usually followed with sickness within three to fifteen days. [1 image, 1 link, 1quote, 127 words]
