Last night, fans at the annual Congressional baseball game
which began in 1909 witnessed a remarkable and emotional feat as Representative
Steve Scalise of Louisiana returned to the ball field after suffering life threatening
injuries as of a result being shot during an attack by a gunman during the
teams practice a year ago. Rep. Scalise had
no intention of just attending the game, he was going to play as well. USA Today reported Representative as stating
earlier in the day, “there was a lot of symbolism in the teams playing on June
14, the anniversary of the shooting”. As a way of showing respect to the
country and to honor the special agents that saved his life a year ago, Rep.
Scalise wore a USA jersey along with a Capitol Police cap instead of his
traditional LSU attire. With assistance,
Scalise took his position on the infield at second base. As he stepped on to
the field he received a standing ovation. The accomplishments of Representative
Steve Scalise did not stop there as he fielded a grounder to start the game. As
a result, the crowd broke out in cheers and his teammates hugged him. [1 image,
