Eyeo, the company that created AdBlock Plus, is working on
a browser extension, called Trusted News, that flags fake or untrustworthy content
in news sources through Chrome. By using blockchain, users will be able to give
feedback, and tell which ideological group it swings. It is intended to prevent
people from getting scammed or believing political bias as facts. https://techcrunch.com/ states, “Eyeo has
been working with MetaCert Protocol which runs an anti-fraud URL registry
(that’s also headed for the blockchain), to maintain the database for the
project.” Good feedback will reward users with MetaCert tokens. Right now it is
only available for English and “On the privacy front, Eyeo
says that the Trusted News extension updates its own internal database each day
so that users’ browsing activity ‘never touches a central server’.” (Lomas). Trusted
News is still a new project, but months will tell if it works well.
