Splitting California

A proposition will appear in California’s November 6th primary to split the state into 3 separate states. CNN journalist Madison Park covers this story in their article Initiative to break California into 3 states to go on November ballot (https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/13/us/california-three-states-initiative-ballot/index.html?ofs=fbia). This decision was proposed by venture capitalist Tim Draper and is motivated by a desire to “allow regional communities to make better and more sensible decisions for their citizens to address the state's most pressing issues, including the school systems, high taxes, deteriorating infrastructure and strained government (Park).” The “Cal3” website describes the split as similar to “North Carolina and South Carolina; North Dakota and South Dakota; West Virginia and Virginia (Park)” and states that “California is already known for its Northern and Southern identities (Park).”
