Covering
the situation in a war zone is a very dangerous game, but the World Cup seems to have brought a temporary peace to the land. The World Cup hosted this year in
Russia stirred confusing emotions within soldiers who were fighting not too far
from it for their land. Ukrainian soldiers faced off against separatist insurgents
but wished to watch the games to take their mind off of war. It’s all the more
saddening to know “enemy soldiers faced one another only 40 to 50 meters apart”
and the only thing giving this short moment of peace was a game of soccer.
Daily gunfights and shelling are stopped for a game but the peace brought can
only last so long.
