More on the fury over ICE detaining immigrant
children and families, Microsoft employees, who created the information management
software ICE uses have “[requested]
that Microsoft cancel its contracts with ICE, and with other clients
who directly enable ICE (Henney).” In an article by Fox News (https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/at-microsoft-300-workers-protest-ice-contract-threaten-to-resign)
the employees went on to say “as the people who build the technologies that
Microsoft profits from, we refuse to be complicit (Henney).” The ICE contract is
“worth $19.4 million (Henney).” The letter threatening resignation of
employees who signed “initially had more than 100 signatures, but has grown to
more than 300 (Henney).” However despite knowledge of only the
information management systems Microsoft has created, there are fears that Microsoft also supplied ICE with “deep-learning capabilities and accelerated facial
recognition technology, according to FOX Business’ Deirdre Bolton (Henney).”
