Satire is Real

Satire is not fake news if done correctly. If it is absurd enough, or if it contains a quote akin to, “AT&T has consolidated all matter, energy, and extra-dimensional space under one Delaware-incorporated holding company,” then the intentional suspension of journalistic ethics, which can lead to the fake news label, can be dismissed. Despite any commentary that is present in between the lines, the primary intent is to entertain. There is no need to call satirical news sites “fake news,” unless the reader is severely susceptible or lacking  in levity. So, The Hard Times should continue to write extensively about how an aspiring musician kept a guitar pick “lodged in an auxiliary compartment of his wallet ‘just in case’ he may get a chance to use it.” The intent to entertain greatly overshadows the potential to misconstrue, as long as the piece of satire retains its absurdity.  [2 images, 2 links, 2 quotes, 150 words]
