During a recent senate hearing discussing the issue of
fake news, Philippine Senator Grace Poe stated that lies and misinformation is
being published by mainstream media as well as those owned by the government.
She believes that even though there is freedom of speech, bloggers as well as
media sources should be held accountable for defaming person according to the
laws. Senator Poe is quoted in the Gulf News as stating, “a blogger could not
just attack a person without basis, and then hide behind the skirt of freedom
of expression”. She also accused Facebook and other social networks of impacting
