Model Journalism

An excellent article written by Heather Haddon (Twitter profile picture featured here) appeared in The Wall Street Journal, detailing the effects of the Amazon-Whole Foods acquisition a year later. Meaningful statistics are cited throughout, such as, "Whole Foods' foot traffic has increased roughly 3% year over year in each of the quarters since Amazon bought the chain." Very little framing of language is seen on Haddon's part, save for the headline; "devoured" is a strong word choice. Perhaps a pun was intended. Regardless, this is ideal journalism, and even Haddon's tweet promoting the article is reputable, as well as her other tweets that redirect followers to her articles. This is a recurring practice: she tweets in a manner that garners interest for her articles, but her writing itself is entirely void of sensationalism. Journalists should take note.  [1 image, 4 links, 1 quotation, 137 words]
