Miss America 2.0: Where Did the Bikinis Go?

Miss America: She’s supposed the be the most talented, most beautiful, all around good girl of the United States. For decades, viewers have tuned in to see these stunning ladies strut their stuff, but it’s all about to change. With modern views of feminism, there is a negative look on the swimsuit portion of the contest. When the pageant originally debuted, the contestants wore one-pieces, modest for today’s world, as contestants are now seen strutting their stuff in itty bitty bikinis, leaving almost nothing to the imagination. Because of feminism today, the pageant is opting to do away with the swimsuit portion. According to Gretchen Carlson, Miss America 1988, the competition is moving to judge contestants on talent, not looks. She says, “Miss America 2.0, as the event has been branded, will be ‘a competition’ — not a pageant.”
