News about the news makes me uncomfortable, as commentary submitted by journalists about the fact that they are reporting things can understandably receive the fake news label. It is even worse when the journalist writing the article is addressing criticism that is both (1) already in the news, and (2) somewhat directed towards the very journalist writing the article. This is the precise situation presented in this article, and CNN’s Brian Stelter is naturally staining the article with slanted writing such as, “Trump relishes the fight… time and time again, he seizes us-verses-them opportunities, casting the media as an opponent that must be defeated.” Stelter is clearly upset being at the receiving end of some heavy criticism. An article like this belongs in the op-eds and should be distinguished as so. Therefore, I would be more comfortable with categorizing this article as fake news.
