Journalist's integrity challenged when he invents news stories

Last week, a columnist for the Boston Globe, Kevin Cullen, who had written pieces about the bombings at the Boston Marathon in 2013, was suspended for three months without pay.  The Globe had investigated allegations that Cullen had fabricated facts and implied that he had been at the scene of the bombings when he had not actually been there.  “'Our review leads us to a conclusion that Mr. Cullen damaged his credibility,” Henry and McGrory [of the Globe] wrote. “These were serious violations for any journalist and for the Globe, which relies on its journalists to adhere to the same high standards of ethics and accuracy when appearing on other platforms.'"  Two separate investigations took place.  One revealed that Cullen's supposed interview with firefighters at the scene was complete fiction, among other things. [1 image, 1 link, 1 quote, 133 words]
