Is Red Dye in Food Toxic?





This has been a issue when it comes to additives in food. There are beliefs that there are certain negative affects that a dye can have on the body, and we are going to examine red dye. Red dye, otherwise coined as Red #40, is the dye in questions. Studies have found that "Red 40 lowers reproductive success in rats" and it "educed parental and offspring weight, decreased brain weight, and lowered chances for survival in newborn rats." In other words, this dye has the potential to harm us in negative ways. Groups such as the Environmental Working Groups has listed this dye to have a low toxic level while other groups say otherwise.
