How Long Can You Hold Your Breath?

Holding your breath underwater can be quite a struggle. According to the outsiders online , Tom Sietas, a professional freediver, successfully held his breath for "22 minutes and 22 seconds". The Guinness Book of World Records allows "divers to hyperventilate for up to 30 minutes with pure oxygen before they submerge for their record attempt." This buys time before carbon dioxide becomes toxic to the human body. It is reported that Sietas has not suffered any brain damage from his breath holding attempts. His key to holding his breath so long is staying completely still and not moving. Sietas is currently still practicing and recording his attempts to break his own record.
