Fake News Plagued 2017

After current President Trump won the presidential election back in 2017 a lot of talk about fake news began to arise as a result of Trump’s strong opinion on the matter brought the issue into the spotlight. As we all know about the tragic hurricane Irma that hit America last year it caused devastating damage. “Irma, strongest hurricane, recorded category six,” informed Alex Jones of American website InfoWars, which happens to broadcast to large audience of more than 750,000 followers on Facebook. The only problem with this statement is that it wasn’t a category six hurricane because there is no category six, so this was just fake news. The story was shared over 2 million times on Facebook and reached many people and most of them believed it. This type of news is only making Americans more distrusting of each other. Almost all of us have heard the saying “don’t believe everything you hear,” but how can we even believe anything at all that we hear anymore these days. We need to stay relevant on issues so we can contribute to society in a good, helpful way to make a difference in the world. [1 image, 2 links, 1 quotation, 195 words]
