Do You Care About Fake News?

Melania Trump wearing a jacket with the words “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” on it has become a widely debated topic on social media. President Donald Trump claimed that this jacket was meant to “refer to the Fake News Media.” However, some are not buying this statement. Many people, especially on the left, believe the jacket proves that Melania and her husband do not care about children being separated from families since she wore it while visiting immigrants in Texas. Even those on Melania’s side do not agree. Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grishman said it was “just a jacket” even though Trump said it was about fake news. Teen Vogue reported that a journalist named Liz Plank posted on Instagram that the government is using this jacket to get the media “to criticize her wardrobe so that the government can criticize the media for criticizing her wardrobe and delegitimize us as fake news.” This event shows the never-ending fight between the audience, media, and government regarding the power of fake news, even as just a false label, to manipulate anyone.
