Distrust in Media Leaves Journalist Dead
Today a journalist from Kashmir, India named Shujaat Bukhari
was killed after being shot by several men outside of his workplace. Many
people are shocked and heartbroken, and the consensus among many is that he was “a courageous and fearless journalist.” However, his death has caused not only grief but has
also struck fear in other journalists, as this attack sets the tone of the
current political media tension in the area. CNN reports (that the chief minister
even goes as far to call this event an act of “terrorism” and that terrorism
has “hit a new low with Shujaat’s killing.” This event shows how dangerous distrust
in the media and political disagreements can get for both journalists and the audience.
