An online news article published in March of this year by
NBC News Journalist Maggie Fox dived into the subject as to why “false news” stories
spread like wild fire and the truth does not. This topic was first explored by a
PHD study from MIT’s Soroush Vosoughi. Through out this research it has been
reported that “It took the truth about six times as long as falsehood to reach
1,500 people.” Their explanation for this was that people like novel stories in
other words sometimes the truth is just not exciting. So, who leads the pack of
this trend? According to research it’s not all on bots or meddling Russians,
but the average American. A study was shown that after the 2013 Boston Marathon
Bombing tweeter became the main source of news for people trying to stay in
touch and up to date. During that Soroush reported that out his research false
news stories where 70% more likely to be retweeted. If you would like to read this story in its
